Gimp mountain brushes1/5/2024 With some practice, you should get the hang of it quickly enough.Īs you can see, cloning can be time consuming and straining to the eyes. Reduce the size of the brush for more precision and use Ctrl-Z to undo mistakes. This allows parts of the pylon and the edge between the mountain and the sky to be copied crisply over the cables. For example, where the cables cross some pylons in the foothills and where the background of the cables change from sky to mountain.īecause of the clear edges involved, click the checkbox for “Hard edge” in the tool options. To work on areas where there are intricate details in the background behind the cables, get a bigger and clearer view by pressing the “+” key on the keyboard to zoom into the photo. To make the merging even more seamless, reduce the opacity of the brush (drag the slider in the tool options) and paint a few times over each stretch of the cable. Using a blurred edge for the brush helps merge the copied pixels seamlessly with the cable’s background. If you make a mistake, press Ctrl-Z to undo and try again.Ĭhange the clone source as you paint on different parts of the cables because the background behind the cable changes over the stretch of the cables. As you paint over the cable, the clone source will also move such that it maintains its relative position to the cursor. I make some adjustment layers (Clipping Mask) to blend the right rock: I use layer mask to remove a small white part of this rock: Step 8 Use soft brush with color #7a7e7e to paint over there avoiding the top and middle area then change the mode to Multiply 80%: Step 7Įxtract the right rock and position it at the right of our main picture after converting it to Smart Object and resizing. I add a new layer (Clipping Mask) to darken more the front of the rocks. I use soft black brush with opacity about 40% to blur dark effect on the top of the rocks (they will get more light from sky so should be brighter than the rest): Step 6 I create some adjustment layers to change color and darken the rocks. Now on layer mask use black brush to remove selected areas: Step 5 Use Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) to make selections at the left corner and right rock: I want to remove the rock on the right so I add layer mask to this layer. Right click this layer, choose Convert to Smart Object then use Cmd/Ctrl+T to resize it as shown below: Extract them and locate them at the middle section of our picture. On background mountain layer, go to New Layer-New Adjustment Layer-Hue/Saturation: To reduce saturation and increase brightness of the mountains to fit the sky, I use some adjustment layers with Clipping Mask. Now use soft black brushes with large size (I use 250-260 px) to paint on the top of this background to reveal sky added in first step: Step 3 Open background mountain stock.Take the background with misty mountains only and place it at sky part (don't resize it):Ĭlick the second button at the bottom of Layer Panel to add layer mask to this layer.
